Wednesday Nights

Each Wednesday night from September through May we offer programs for kids in 5th-12th grades. The goal throughout is to create a safe space where kids can build friendships while digging deeper into what it means to live out our faith. Our Wednesday night program tends to go something like this:

5:30-6:30    Simple Supper in the Fellowship Hall (everyone is welcome at no cost, just a freewill donation)
6:30-7:45    Learning/Fellowship/Service - More info below on what this looks like
7:45-8:00    Wednesday Night Worship in the Sanctuary
That middle section of time can look like one of three different things:
  • Learning Nights - About every other week, youth split up into three groups and explore a lesson with their peers. The 5th/6th grade "Ignite" group is looking at the Prophets this year and connecting each story to the bigger story of God's people. The 7th/8th grade "JOLT" Confirmation group is learning about the foundations of our faith. Lastly the High School "TRIBE" Group will be talking about how to live out our faith in our friendships & everyday interactions.
  • Fellowship Nights - Once a month or so we have fun events for all 5th-12th graders to get to know each other better, build community, and just have a good time. Some events for this year include life-size board games, Halloween & Christmas parties, movie night, broomball, and more!
  • Service Nights - About once a month we have a service project for the whole group to do together. These also are great opportunities for kids to get to know each other better but serve the broader community at the same time. Some projects this year include sorting donations at VEAP, leading bingo at Martin Luther Manor, a "service scavenger hunt", food packing with Many Hands Many Meals, and picking up litter at a local park.
We invite you to come and see what Wednesday nights are all about! If you have questions or want to see a full calendar of what we have planned, just email Ben at and he'd be happy to help you out!

Camps & Retreats

We also have opportunities for older youth to go on overnight trips together, whether that be a lock-in, weekend at camp, or a week-long summer trip. For more information about upcoming overnight events, please contact Ben Whalen at 612-500-9523 or Some of this past year's trips included:

  • A fall retreat with the Confirmation group to Luther Park Bible Camp in Danbury, WI. Here they are (above left) tackling challenges on the low ropes course.
  • A high school  winter retreat at Luther Park Bible Camp for Peer Ministry Training with a couple other youth groups. This empowered them to bring faith into their everyday interactions.
  • A spring lock-in at church led by the Gustavus Youth Outreach Team, a group of college students trained to lead games, Bible study, and worship. Lots of fun and not a lot of sleep were had!
  • A Family Mission Trip to Madison, WI that was open to ALL ages! This included service projects at community gardens, senior centers, food shelves, and clothing distribution centers. It also included time for fun each night like our ice cream trip to State Street.
  • A high-adventure trip for the high schoolers out to Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp in Montana (above right). This included 4 days of rafting on the western edge of Glacier National Park in some true wilderness, putting us in the company of the Israelites, Elijah, Jesus, and other Biblical wilderness travelers!
